Dangote Sugar is all about creating ventures that serves the interest of stakeholders, communities and the people concerned. We believe in establishing impactful businesses that are socially responsible to cater for people’s needs.
Dangote Sugar is conscious of the social and economic obligations of its operations and the challenges faced by communities in the areas we operate. Thus, our sustainability approach is driven by a desire to contribute and impact positively towards the development of these communities and the society at large.
At Dangote Sugar, we create and add value to our shareholders and all other stakeholders. From transforming raw materials into finished nutritious fortified products for our customers/consumers; and the substantial payments made to the value chain of suppliers, contractors, distributors, customers, employees as well as the government through taxes.
We are mindful that the sustainability of our business is interwoven with the well-being and advancement of the communities in which we operate. Therefore in addition to creating jobs and other economic opportunities, we provide education, free health care and other support services to the communities in which our pilot backward integration projects site, Savannah Sugar Company Limited is located.
The health and safety of our customers is of utmost importance. We comply with all relevant safety, health, environmental, quality and food safety legislation in Nigeria. Our production processes are operated under the ISO 9001:2008 quality and Food Safety Management System.
We support the Federal Government’s and NAFDAC’s strategies to tackle micronutrient deficiencies by fortifying our sugar with Vitamin A, thereby contributing to improving public health.
We work closely with local indigenous sugarcane farmers at Numan, Adamawa State through our established sugarcane out grower development scheme, to improve the community farmer’s participation in the Sugar for Nigeria Project, boost their income, while improving cane quality and yields at the mills. The same scheme and our robust community development projects will be implemented across all our Backward Integration Projects sites.
We are committed to the implementation and maintenance of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) that aim at the prevention of occupational injury and ill–health to all people who have access to the organization’s workplace. A strong commitment to continuous improvement is needed for production, sales and delivery of refined granulated white sugar in compliance with relevant legal, statutory and other requirements.
Our slogan remains: “Safety First. If it is not safe, don’t do it.”
The occupational health & safety policy is documented, monitored and sustained through adequate communication, supervision and awareness creation to all employees, suppliers and all stakeholders in line with the requirements of the OHSAS 18001:2007 safety system.
